Jessica Steele began her career giving unsolicited, practical advice at a very young age, and has never stopped. She honed her practical approach to problem solving as an AmeriCorps National Service member, finding solutions when even the problems weren’t obvious.
Her first experience mentoring college students came while she was Director of an after-school and summer program helping working college students learn how to apply the work experience they were gaining to getting the job that they would love after graduation. Being in charge of interviewing and hiring staff taught her that the best fit didn’t just mean having the right skills, it also meant having an eagerness to learn and desire to be a part of a team culture.
Moving to State College, PA found Jessica working in Human Resources in a recruiting role for a large company. Scanning hundreds of résumés per position as well as conducting phone interviews taught her the details that make a résumé and personal strengths that can stand out among the masses.
Now working in higher education, Jessica gets to be the wizard behind the curtain, using her wit and wisdom to help graduate and undergraduate students make connections with companies and alumni to achieve their career goals. She works to motivate and provide students with the tools they need to succeed. Jessica helps students to be true to themselves during the job and internship process so that they can find a company where they not only fit, but that fits their ideal workplace.
Jessica holds a B.S. degree in History from Tennessee Technological University, a Child Development Accreditation from Roane State College, and a Management Certificate from The University of Tennessee. Jessica is an avid social networker. Connect with her on Twitter and LinkedIn.
