Professional Bio

Dennis S. Gouran (Ph.D., University of Iowa, 1968) is a Professor in Labor and Employment Relations and Communication Arts and Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University. A specialist in the area of communication in decision-making and problem-solving groups, Professor Gouran has published in excess of 100 books, chapters, and refereed articles dealing with this and related subjects. He has also directed to completion more than 70 Ph.D., M.A., and Honors theses while serving as chair or member of numerous university, college, departmental, and professional association committees, as well as being a member of three or more editorial boards concurrently for every year from 1970 to the present. He has received recognition for his teaching, scholarship, and service through such awards as the CSCA Outstanding Young Teacher Award, the Penn State Howard B. Palmer Faculty Mentoring Award, the Penn State College of the Liberal Arts Outstanding Advisor Award, the NCA Distinguished Scholar Award, and the Penn State Faculty Scholar's Medal for the Social and Behavioral Sciences.
