Biography:

Amanda is a first year graduate student in the IUG Labor and Employment Relations / Human Resources and Employment Relations program at Penn State University. She will be graduating in May 2018 with a B.S. in Labor Studies and Employment Relations and an M.S. in Human Resources and Employment Relations.

She has spent the past three summers as well as school breaks as a Human Resources Intern and Assistant at Custom Computer Specialists, Inc., a technology solutions consultant, located in Hauppauge, New York. Through this internship opportunity, she has learned about and gained hands-on experience in many aspects of the Human Resources field including recruiting, onboarding, off boarding, compensation, benefits, training and development, employee relations, employment law and compliance.  She gained in-depth experience in updating and maintaining the Human Resource Information System (HRIS), ADP Workforce Now and the Applicant Tracking System (ATS), Oracle Taleo.

Some of her responsibilities included resume sourcing, screening candidates, creating and presenting offer packages, creating employee engagement surveys and analyzing results, coordinating company and recruiting events, assisting in the creation of incentive compensation plans, creating written employee communications for several initiatives and completing various phases of the onboarding and off boarding process. She supported a team of five human resource professionals in a high volume, fast paced environment.

In addition to her interests in Human Resources and Employment Relations, she will be graduating with a minor in the Italian language. She has been learning and speaking the language since she was a child and had the opportunity to study in Florence, Italy for the spring 2016 semester. It was a life-changing experience that allowed her to broaden her horizons and truly appreciate diversity and culture. She is now considering how she can incorporate her skills and proficiency in the Italian language with her intended career path of human resources.

As she continues to grow and develop as a student and aspiring Human Resources professional, she is considering careers in Human Resources Management and Consulting, both nationally and internationally.
