3rd CIHRS Global Conference of IHRM: 18-20 May 2017

The 3rd Global Conference on International Human Resource Management organized by CIHRS will be held on 18-20 May 2017 in New York City, USA. Prominent IHRM academics and practitioners will be speaking, as well as the program being open to academic submissions. Further details available here.


Embedded study abroad program to Sweden

This 3-credit course for School of Labor and Employment Relations undergraduate and graduate students provides a global perspective on content they are learning in their degree programs. Students gain an insight into the HRM practices of a contrasting culture compared to the US, with a strong focus on social welfare: Sweden. You can read more about the course here. Plans are currently underway to run this course again in April/May 2017!


Research paper series launched

The Research Paper Series showcases review papers and preliminary research results on topics related to international human resource management. Click here to see the papers, many of which have been authored by graduating students from the Penn State 'MS in Human Resources and Employment Relations' program with a passion for IHRM. We believe that you will find these useful reviews of specific topics in IHRM that have not been published elsewhere.

Online program: Graduate Certificate in International Human Resources and Employee Relations

CIHRS has been closely involved in establishing the new Penn State World Campus online graduate certificate in International Human Resources and Employment Relations (IHRER). The program launched in January 2016. If you are interested in earning a globally focused HR/ER qualification, check out the details here.


2014-15 CRANET Survey of HRM Policies and Practices

The CIHRS team has completed its survey of HR professionals in organizations across the U.S. to gather data exploring the latest activities in HRM policies and practices. The final results are now available in a comprehensive US report that explores the latest findings in depth, as well as looking at trends over the last decade. Read more about these findings here.



Center for International Human Resource Studies

The Center for International Human Resource Studies is an initiative of the School of Labor and Employment Relations at the Pennsylvania State University (USA), which encourages IHRM scholarly research and serves the International HR practitioner community. Through targeted events and activities, our goal is to develop a strong community of academics and practitioners passionate about international HRM, enabling the sharing of ideas to advance knowledge and practice in the field. The activities of the CIHRS are led by a core team of academics in the School of Labor and Employment Relations – Dr Elaine Farndale (Center Director), Dr Sumita Raghuram, Dr Jean Phillips, and Dr Stan Gully – supported by researchers and a network of CIHRS Fellows who are leading experts in the IHRM field from across the globe. CIHRS Fellows currently include: Ingmar Björkman (Aalto University, Finland), Chris Brewster (Henley Business School, UK), Paula Caligiuri (Northeastern University, USA), Lisbeth Claus (Willamette University, USA), Tony Edwards (Kings College London, UK), and Randall Schuler (Rutgers University, USA).
