Mark Wardell

Mark Wardell is an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean of the Graduate School. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Missouri, and from 1993 to 2002 he was the department head of Labor Studies and Industrial Relations at the Pennsylvania State University. His published works focus on the nature of sociological theory, changes in the organization of the workplace, and the work/life intersections of professional IT workers. His most recent grants have been from the National Science Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, and the Penn State Children, Youth, and Family Consortium. His publications have appeared in Accounting, Organization and Society, Social Problems, Sociological Inquiry, Sociological Quarterly, Social Science Quarterly, Symbolic Interaction, Theory and Society, among others. His present research focuses on the various reasons for women exiting the professional IT workforce at a higher rate than men.
